Today's temperature will be at least 73 degrees hotter than the last time I wrote on my blog.
Today's temperature will be at least 73 degrees hotter than the last time I wrote on my blog.

I'm not saying it's been a while since I wrote on my blog, but the last time I wrote something, the temperature was a frigid 30 degrees with snow on the ground. Yesterday was the first day of summer, and today we're expecting temperatures to reach 103+ degrees.

I thought by now I'd have a lot more writing under my belt than I do. Of course, I don't own a belt so maybe that's part of the problem. Putting aside all my excuses for not writing though, uhm, actually, I don't have any excuses. I mean, one minute it was January 15, 2025, and the next minute it's June 21, 2025.

It's not like I haven't been involved in writing. I'm the editor for a bi-monthly newsletter for Wordsowers Christian Writers Group which keeps me busy. I oversee two Facebook pages and a website for Wordsowers as well. And I've been assisting an author by editing her autobiographical book about Usher Syndrome. Oh yeah, then there’s the critique group.

Seems like I've been busy writing for everyone else except for myself. It's all good and I enjoy what I've been doing, but somehow my personal writing has been pushed aside. I think it happens a lot to people who are natural caregivers. We put everyone's needs above our own to the point that we lose ourselves, our purpose, and our dreams.

I don’t want to lose what the Lord has called me to do. A part of His call is for me to be a writer. If I were to advise someone in the same situation I find myself in, what kind of advice would I offer them?

I think I’d tell them:

-If God has called you to write, then write.

-If God has called you to write, then be intentional about writing, even if you must make a date with yourself to get it done.

-If God has called you to write, then be selective with your schedule and what you say “yes” to.

You know, that’s sound advice. Now to practice what I preach. Hopefully, it won’t be another six months until my next blog post.

Just think, six months from now we can complain about the cold.
